Vaccinations and Immunisations
Step 9 –
Vaccinations & Immunisations
Evidence of vaccinations is essential in aged care to protect both staff and residents from preventable diseases. Older adults are more vulnerable to infections, and vaccinations help meet legal and regulatory requirements for a safe and healthy environment.
What vaccinations do I need?
Each state differs. We require everyone to have an Influenza Vaccination, and COVID-19 Vaccinations.
Influenza Vaccination
This is required annually. While vaccinations do not expire, it is our policy that all staff receive the flu vaccination each year to ensure ongoing protection.
Vaccinations must be:
- Administered within the last 10 months at date of submission
- Evidence must include full name, DOB, vaccination provider and vaccine information (like the brand)
COVID-19 Vaccinations
Currently, three doses of the COVID-19 Vaccination are mandatory to work.
Evidence can come in the form of:

Got a burning question you want answered?
Here's a few we get asked alot...
1. Can I continue working if I haven't had the COVID-19 vaccine?
In order to proceed with registration and continue working, COVID-19 vaccinations, including the third dose (booster), are mandatory. Medical exemptions may apply with appropriate documentation.
2. I can't get my influenza vaccine administered soon, and I want to start working, what do I do?
If you are unable to get an influenza vaccination due to limited availability at this time of year, you can still proceed with registration by providing additional evidence. Please contact your compliance officer, who will guide you on the necessary documentation. Please note that a flu vaccination will be required before the start of the winter season on 01/06/2025.
3. Can I get the flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine at the same time?
Yes, you can receive the flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine at the same time. The Australian Department of Health have confirmed that it is safe to get both vaccines on the same day.
4. Do I need to pay for my vaccinations?
In Australia, whether you need to pay for the influenza (flu) vaccine depends on your eligibility and the location (for example, metro or regional areas) in which you're seeking the vaccine. We recommending contacting your local GP or pharmacy and they should be able to provide you with information on the cost prior to booking an appointment.
